Outstanding Orchids and Astonishing Art

Monday 24 March 2014

The RHS London Orchid and Botanical Art Show, 11–12 April 2014

Exotic orchids and exquisite botanical art will take centre stage at the RHS London Orchid and Botanical Art Show, 11-12 April 2014. Held in both the Lawrence and Lindley Halls, the annual show will provide visitors with a unique chance to view original artwork by some of the world’s finest botanical artists and gives plant lovers the opportunity to see some of the rarest orchids close up.

In the Lindley Hall, visitors can purchase new artwork as well as observe artists painting amidst laurel and apple trees beneath a stunning backdrop by painter Susan Entwhistle. Also new for 2014 is the pop-up Studio Orchard. Watch the artists at work and be inspired by illustrators and printmakers like Hannah McVicar and Emma Hardicker who will provide tips and advice on how to bring horticultural art to life.

Interest in the show has hit an all-time high this year, with nearly 30 artists from countries as far afield as Australia, Thailand, South Korea and the USA, all exhibiting and hoping to win a coveted Gold Medal.

The Lawrence Hall will play host to a spectacular display by specialist Orchid growers from across the globe. A dazzling variety of orchid species and hybrids will be available to buy and a programme of talks will also feature, including a ticketed talk from internationally recognised orchid grower, Bill Thoms.

Tickets are also available for the exclusive Preview Evening on 10 April where visitors can get a sneak peak of the show from 6-9pm. There will be a spicy supper alongside a selection of entertainment including East Asian music and Japanese rhythms from Taiko Meantime.

About RHS London Shows
The RHS London Flower Shows are the longest running of all the Society's flower shows. Established in 1862, they were first held at the RHS garden in Kensington but moved to the RHS Horticultural Halls when they were built in 1904 and have remained there ever since.

About the RHS
The Royal Horticultural Society was founded in 1804 by Sir Joseph Banks and John Wedgwood for the encouragement and improvement of the science, art and practice of horticulture. We held our first flower shows in 1820, were granted a Royal Charter in 1861 and acquired RHS Garden Wisley, our flagship garden, in 1903. From our first meetings in a small room off London’s Piccadilly, we have grown to become the world’s largest gardening charity.

Today the RHS is committed to providing a voice for all gardeners. We are driven by a simple love of plants and a belief that gardeners make the world a better place. 210 years on we continue to safeguard and advance the science, art and practice of horticulture, creating displays that inspire people to garden. In all aspects of our work we help gardeners develop by sharing our knowledge of plants, gardens and the environment.
