RHS Garden Hyde Hall Has Busiest Year Ever

Friday 13 February 2015

Sunshine, horticultural developments and flower show give Hyde Hall highest visitor numbers ever with more than 217,000

RHS Garden Hyde Hall has had its most successful year ever, with more than 217,000 visitors coming to the garden between February 2014 and January 2015. The record breaking figure was a 23% increase on 2013, which held the previous record of 177,000 visitors.

The horticultural developments at the garden have been especially popular and over the last couple of years an extension to Dry Garden, the addition of spring bulbs, new Courtyard Gardens and a new lake, has ensured that there’s always something new for visitors to enjoy each time they visit.

An inspiring programme of events throughout the year has also helped to increase numbers and in particular the flagship summer Flower Show which has grown in popularity year on year and now attracts over 18,000.

Sue Biggs, Director General of the RHS, said: “It’s been a cracking year with a warm sunny spring, great events and of course the beautiful gardens themselves helping attract the record breaking number of visitors we have seen. I’d like to thank everyone who works on our breathtaking horticulture, diverse events programme, garden-inspired catering and fantastic shops and plant centres. It is the hard work, passion and dedication of this team of people that makes a day out at an RHS Garden Hyde Hall such an unforgettable experience and has helped us to have our busiest year ever.”

About the RHS
The Royal Horticultural Society was founded in 1804 by Sir Joseph Banks and John Wedgwood for the encouragement and improvement of the science, art and practice of horticulture. We held our first flower shows in 1820, were granted a Royal Charter in 1861 and acquired RHS Garden Wisley in 1903. From our first meetings in a small room off London’s Piccadilly, we have grown to become the world’s largest gardening charity.

Today the RHS is committed to providing a voice for all gardeners. We are driven by a simple love of plants and a belief that gardeners make the world a better place. 210 years on we continue to safeguard and advance the science, art and practice of horticulture, creating displays that inspire people to garden. In all aspects of our work we help gardeners develop by sharing our knowledge of plants, gardens and the environment.
