Gardeners to Get Growing this Spring

Spring Plant Fair Sunday 3 May 2015

Get some spring gardening inspiration at RHS Garden Harlow Carr

Spring has finally sprung in Yorkshire and to get the gardening season off to a flying start, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is holding a plant fair at its most northerly garden on Sunday 3 May (10am – 4pm).

In partnership with Plant Heritage, local and specialist nurseries will be setting up shop in the grounds of RHS Garden Harlow Carr, selling a range of plants with the added bonus of expert advice and specialist knowledge from the grower.

Paul Cook, Curator at RHS Garden Harlow Carr, says: “The Spring Plant Fair is always extremely popular and a great opportunity to get some inspiration for your own garden, with Harlow Carr itself offering a wealth of ideas.

“It seems as if spring has suddenly exploded in the garden, with colour and blooms catching the eye from every corner. A wealth of colour and pattern is beginning to appear in the beds, with hellebores and irises stealing the show. Now is definitely the time to get out and get growing.”

Visitors will also be able to take advantage of the RHS Gardening Advice team, who will be at the garden throughout the day. The knowledgeable team – usually based at RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey – will be on hand to give expert advice on all areas of horticulture, as well as help with plant and disease identification. Visitors are invited to bring along their own samples.

About the RHS
The Royal Horticultural Society was founded in 1804 by Sir Joseph Banks and John Wedgwood for the encouragement and improvement of the science, art and practice of horticulture. We held our first flower shows in 1820, were granted a Royal Charter in 1861 and acquired RHS Garden Wisley, the first of our gardens, in 1903. From our first meetings in a small room off London’s Piccadilly, we have grown to become the world’s largest gardening charity.

Today the RHS is committed to providing a voice for all gardeners. We are driven by a simple love of plants and a belief that gardeners make the world a better place. 211 years on we continue to safeguard and advance the science, art and practice of horticulture, creating displays that inspire people to garden. In all aspects of our work we help gardeners develop by sharing our knowledge of plants, gardens and the environment.
