Enjoy an action-packed weekend of family fun & garden inspiration

Head to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Garden Harlow Carr in Harrogate on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April 2015 for a weekend of expert gardening advice and an action-packed programme of family events.

The garden’s Spring Gardening & Wildlife Weekend will round off National Gardening Week, the UK’s biggest celebration of gardening.

Visitors can discover the joy of growing plants to encourage and support wildlife in their gardens at home.
It doesn’t matter how much space you have or your level of experience, there will be something to interest everyone.

Garden expert Martin Fish will be on hand to offer tips and advice on how to get started gardening at home; there will be a plant fair featuring rare and unusual plants as well as those designed to attract wildlife; bring along your soil samples to a compost clinic for analysis; be inspired by a woodworking display and enjoy an outdoor seasonal cookery demonstration by top French chef, Lionel Strub.

A range of wildlife activities will take place on the Lower Lawn including: beekeeping displays and bumblebee safaris, butterfly walks and birds of prey flying shows.

For the younger gardeners in the family, there’s a chance to make a seed bomb, ‘upcycle’ items into garden crafts, share rhubarb-related stories and make a birdfeeder.

On Sunday, TV gardening expert James Wong will be at the garden at 2pm to offer tips and tricks on how to get the best flavour from home-grown fruit and veg. The best-selling author and RHS Ambassador will talk about his new book, Grow for Flavour, and explain how growing the best-tasting cultivars and treating them a bit meaner will not only result in crops with an intense flavour, but also cut down the work involved.

To book a place call 020 3176 5830. Tickets cost £10 for RHS members and £20.95 for non-members (includes garden entry). There will be an opportunity for a Q&A session at the end along with a book signing.

About the RHS
The Royal Horticultural Society was founded in 1804 by Sir Joseph Banks and John Wedgwood for the encouragement and improvement of the science, art and practice of horticulture. We held our first flower shows in 1820, were granted a Royal Charter in 1861 and acquired RHS Garden Wisley, the first of our gardens, in 1903. From our first meetings in a small room off London’s Piccadilly, we have grown to become the world’s largest gardening charity.

Today the RHS is committed to providing a voice for all gardeners. We are driven by a simple love of plants and a belief that gardeners make the world a better place. 211 years on we continue to safeguard and advance the science, art and practice of horticulture, creating displays that inspire people to garden. In all aspects of our work we help gardeners develop by sharing our knowledge of plants, gardens and the environment.
